An adaptation of Akuragawa’s classic story, originally filmed by Akira Kurasawa.  The production incorporated as many styles of Japanese theatre as possible, including Kabuki, Bunraku puppetry and Noh.  (Fall 2007)

The Bandit and Samurai fight to the death.
The Woman gives her testimony.
The Woman defies the Bandit.
The Woman begs the Samurai to understand.
The Woman kills the Samurai.
The Samurai gives his testimony through a Medium.
The Bandit releases the Samurai.
The Medium illustrates the Samurai’s suicide.
